They were destined for failure.
When William, a mysterious and manipulative wizard, learns the deadly Ravenstone has been uncovered by a self-proclaimed regent known as the Priagent, he hastily assembles a group of mismatched travelers to steal the stone and deliver it to safety.
The Ravenstone is an ancient relic—a remnant of a battle between gods—and it has the power to unravel magic. The unlikely company sent to retrieve it consists of Arcturus, an exiled politician with a fondness for wine, Kariayla, a winged slave girl on a quest for redemption, Jinx, an unlucky thief and his imp counterpart, and Hawkwing, William’s personal spy, at the helm.
Distrust, secrets, and inexperience threaten to compromise the mission as the group is forced to travel in the company of the enemy. Doubt turns to the wizard who employed them on this precarious quest—the quest to obtain a mythic source of dark power the Legend of the Ravenstone.

As a fan of the works of M.S. Verish, I was excited when I found this was soon to be released.Legend of the Ravenstone is essentially a "reboot" of a previous work which I read as well. It is a two part series with the second in the series hoping to be ready near years end.
The story starts quickly and grabs your attention right away. No messing around. Within the first chapter, you're hooked, wanting to know more. Who is this Priagent, what happened to Miss Xiuss? There are a lot of questions you will want answers to. Some of which will be answered in this book, some we will have to wait until the next book.
From there the book quickly moves on to the introduction of the other characters. The book is not lacking in character background like many other fantasy books out there. You know where the characters come from and how they ended up where they are.
If you have read the other books about Secramore from the authors, several of the characters and places should be familiar to you. William is as eccentric as you may remember from the original story and an enjoyable character to read. Hawkwing does not disappoint in being...maybe reclusive is the best word. He keeps to himself as he generally does, although you do learn some interesting background about him. Arcturus I would say is a borderline alcoholic with a penchant for wine over any other drink, and of course Markanturain wine is the standard he holds all other wines to. Kariayla is a girl from Nemeloreah that has been enslaved trying to make up for past sins. And then there is Jinx, an unlucky and aptly named thief with his companion Ruby, and imp.
[minor plot spoilers]
After the wizard William learns that the Ravenstone has been found, he requests the presence of Arcturus who is to be led to him by Hawkwing. What he gets is this rag-tag band of travelers. William being William, or Bill as he prefers, is not at all put off by the extra bodies and seems to embrace them one and all. He employs them to retrieve an ancient, and thought to be lost artifact, and deliver it to a safe location. Their journey is fraught with troubles as well as good times. A red skinned mage and his winged companion are not exactly looked upon favorably in the Freelands on their way to meet Hawkwing to be led to William. Little did they know that would be the easy part of their journey. Once they meet up with Hawkwing, and Jinx joins them, their journey goes from difficult to dangerous. And of course, it comes to an end with you wanting to know how it ends, but you will have to wait for that.
In the end, I can say I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It has a little bit of everything, and the did not drag in any areas. The authors did a great job in keeping the pace appropriate and not filling it with unnecessary information just to add pages. If you enjoy fantasy stories, this book, and all of the tales of Secramore, should be on your list of books to read.

Legend of the Ravenstone Ravenstone Saga Book 1 eBook MS Verish Reviews
I enjoyed reading about the characters.
I am very happy with the way the characters are continually developing throughout the story. Fun read.
First, a disclaimer
I know the authors. We met at a convention a number of years ago, and discovered we liked one another’s books. We have become trustworthy, critical beta-readers; I first read "Legend of the Ravenstone" in its early iteration several years ago. Now I am pleased to say that it has matured into a book that I’m anxious to recommend and share with other fantasy-lovers.
Ravenstone is an eloquent offering. It’s quest fantasy, with characters so unique and intriguing that any reader will appreciate and enjoy the story. It’s a complex and well-woven tapestry of words and characters, colorful and introspective, but with enough action to keep the story moving at a good pace. The style is descriptive, but not to excess, peppered with a turn of phrase that’s occasionally brilliant. The dialogue flows well and is natural and character-appropriate. For example, the “politician” character is rather verbose and curmudgeonly—even tedious at times—but he’s always in character. On the other hand, the “tall tracker with the mysterious past” is a man of few words, but there’s a lot beneath the surface.
This is no hastily-thrown-together offering. It has been polished and crafted until the heart of the story sparkles and glows. It’s the first book, so we will need to wait to find out what becomes of the characters, but I, for one, am excited to continue the tale. The characters drew me in and made me love them (well, most of them). That doesn’t happen often.
It has been a pleasure to watch these terrific young authors mature and perfect their craft. Ravenstone, in my opinion, will fit right into the collection of any fantasy-loving reader. It is well-edited and does not contain mature content.
If you enjoy a good quest with a fresh, interesting, and unique company of characters, you’ll appreciate "Legend of the Ravenstone." I know I did.
